Proper etiquette is expected before, during and after class. Students are expected to be on the mat at least five minutes before Sensei or the instructor gets on the mat. During class, students shall maintain a spirit of harmony, respect, and camaraderie.
Everyone is expected to follow Sensei's or the instructor's techniques as demonstrated. Even though both Senseis allow ample demonstration of individuality, students attention should focus on the way each Sensei or instructor demonstrates techniques. Every New York Aikikai student should try to apply technique as close as it was demonstrated by the instructor.
Surrendering one's ego and following the technique just as shown is a must for a true budo student.
"I am calm however and whenever I am attacked. I have no attachment to life or death. I leave everything as it is to God. Be apart from attachment to life and death and have a mind which leaves everything to Him, not only when you are being attacked but also in your daily lives."
Be kind to your partner:
"True budo is the loving protection of all beings with a spirit of reconciliation. Reconciliation means to allow the completion of every-one's mission."
"Aikido is non-resistance. As it is non-resistant, it is always victorious."
