The Children's Aikido Program

The emphasis of the program, while certainly on aikido technique, discipline and physical conditioning, is also strongly on the humanitarian principles which O Sensei taught as an inherent part of aikido practice: cooperation, conflict resolution and empathy.

Students are encouraged to develop sensitivity to their fellow students, to be patient with those who are less advanced, and accepting of those who process the training differently, and to carry that awareness into their lives outside of aikido. The program meets twice a week (Saturdays and Sundays) from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. After warm-ups, classes are split into levels: beginners, intermediate (10th and 9th kyu) and advanced (8th thru 6th kyu), to enable students to focus on the particular details appropriate to their level of training.
